A natural dye
The safflower petals range from yellow to dark orange, but when dried, they become a deep red that resembles saffron. Because they're rich in pigment, we use the extract as a natural dye.
Safflowers are botanically related to lettuce, sunflowers, and daisies. They were originally cultivated for their flowers, which were used for textile dyes. The flowers are now cultivated their oil-rich seeds too.
