I followed directions left it on for 2.5 hours and what a mess it makes. I wouldn't mind but it was hard to get out of my hair and it did absolutely nothing for me. Very disappointed not a cheap products, I had high hopes for it....

I bought this after speaking to a store employee and gaining more knowledge about this product. I was excited and looking forward to cancelling out some red undertones and darkening my hair up a bit with the Brun. (Per the employee) This item was super messy and icky in my hair. I left it on for 4 hours and I'm saddened to say it did absolutely nothing. My hair color is the absolute same :(

Persevere - it's worth it!

I read many reviews and decided to give this product a try. After my first use, I vowed never to use it again. It was so messy and smelly. However, I liked the results. I liked how it simply faded instead of leaving sharp dye lines. Eventually, my dislike for the cost of salon dye won out, and I tried the henna again. It was easier the second time. I've gotten more efficient with each use and it is now hands down my favorite lush product and hair dye. So inexpensive - I use maybe 1.5 full blocks of dye for an entire year's worth of dying. (That's less $ than ONE salon dye). And no harmful chemicals. I'd recommend watching video tutorials. If you're daunted by the mess, persevere, it's worth it once you get a good system down!!

Henna is widely used in India by alot of women. for all the people, who don't know the Henna only works if you have grey hair. This is not a hair color. It is used by peeple to cover the grey hair.

I wanted something that would help tint my white hairs to blend in better with my brown hair. I will say that the color this produced was nice. It made my brown hairs a bit richer in color, and turned the white hairs into a more light golden/orange color, which I think just looks like cool highlights. Note that this will NOT color white hairs brown. After using this product six times, I have decided to stop for several reasons; Henna deposits layers of color on your hair, like a permanent mask, and every time you apply it to your hair, you build up layers. Six layers later, my hairs are coarse. The hair strands are bumpy and uneven, and look frizzy. There is no way to undo this. (This is an issue with all henna, not just Lush). The process of preparing and using this henna is a huge hassle and mess. Cutting up the bar, melting it and mixing it with hot water does not sound like a big deal, but it is really time consuming and takes considerable effort. When applying to hair, it is a HUGE mess. No matter how careful I am, the bathroom ends up looking like a puppy covered in mud ran through. And after you applied it, it needs to stay on for 2-4 hours. I always did 4 to ensure the deepest dye. It is incredibly difficult to wash out of the hair. I can't stress that enough either. And the whole shower will be a total mess. It will also stain the shower floor/tub after a few uses. The only way for me to remove it was with a magic cleaning eraser. All in all, it takes me about 6 hours to do this whole process (30 min prep henna, 1 hour apply, 4 hours wait, 30 min wash out) along with a massive mess. It is no longer worth it for me, along with it building up nasty layers on my hair. I will be switching to something easier, simpler, and not so consuming.

Didn't Cover my Greys but Happy Overall

My hair is chest length brown to dark brown. This product definitely lightened my hair up, to more a brown with red undertones that you can see in the sunlight. Definitely not a ginger like some users mentioned, but I catch glints of red here and there. Overall I think the color is pretty, and am happy with the results but in hindsight a combo of noir and Brun may have been better for me. The idea of darkening my hair to a black really scared me, and I'm not sure what the best mix would be, nor am I someone who usually colors their hair so I wasn't about to go mix a concoction on my first go round with henna. I wanted a natural alternative to hair dyes to cover my ever present grays. They are most prevalent when my hair is in a ponytail and even after dying they still are. The pieces closest to my hairline are very grey and didn't seem to take any color at all. I'd say its like 3-4 inches down the strand before any henna shows up at all. The grey here turns more of a cinnamon. I'd like to have seen more gray coverage since that was my primary reason for using the product. For the process, I was too lazy to dye test, so hubby dearest and I went all in. We used the whole bar and kept a tea kettle of hot water on hand during the process to keep the mixture moldable. It definitely dries into a clay like mixture, and when I let it set for 3.5 hours it was a like a beehive on my head. My 3 year old thought it was more sinister and it definitely scared the bejesus out of her when she came to give me a hug, and frankly the entertainment value of that alone is worth half a star. It was easy to rinse out, and I shampoo'd twice after. My hair feels LUSH (see what I did there?) and much more moisturized than it was before the dye. Overall, I think it's more of a 3.5 stars for the all natural ingredients, buttery effects of the hair afterwards, and final color result. The remaining stars are reserved for my still grey hairs.

Dried my hair out and did not change the color

My hair is mostly straight with a bit of a wavy pattern. It is dry, frizzy, and easily damaged. About a year ago I started bleaching and coloring my hair. When my hair got damaged to the point where it would not hold color at all I decided to try Lush's henna hair dye to try to repair some damage and go back to my natural dark brown. I decided it really did not matter to me if my hair turned out brown or red. Even if it didnt show up too well at least it is supposed to be really good for my hair. When I started my hair was a kind of orange-ish blond due to the bleach. It wasn't red though. When I finished it was the exact same color. Literally exactly the same. It didn't even color the brighter blond bits to match the rest. Like I said, this would not have bothered me much if it had helped my hair heal a bit. Instead it made my hair dryer than it has ever been. I don't know how to fix it now. I am going to try adding some black henna dye from lush to at least darken it even if it dries my hair out more.

didn't do anything to my hair

I love Henna!!!!

I followed the instructions to use it. I had used the Maroon before, which was too redish for me. the first time I used Brun, my hair got a bit darker but retained the auburn quality I like. The second time, I just left it for two hours because I was in a hurry. It did not get as dark as I wanted. Next time I'll leave it on for four hours. I turned to henna because my hair was dry, frizzy and falling out. Now, my hair seems softer and silkier, and it does not seem to be falling out, either. I LOVE it!!!! I will continue buying this product. Yes, it a little messy, but I learned to use less henna with more water. The first time I used it, I broke the block in 6 parts, and I used two parts. The solution was too thick and difficult to apply, even when I added more hot water. The second time, I used one 12th of the block, and I tried to keep the solution as thin as possible. It was a lot easier to apply and less messy. I have already recommended this product.

First time using henna. I have very long light brown hair with golden highlights. I chopped up the whole block with a knife and then added boiling water. I didn't need to use a blender or cheese grater to get a fine consistency and it melted easily. I didn't have any help and it was fine applying by myself. I started off using a culinary brush to apply it and quickly switched to scooping handfuls and working it through small sections of my hair. I found continuing to add warm water to the henna helped and keeping the consistency on the more liquid side helped ensure full coverage when applying it. I wrapped my head in plastic wrap and let is sit for 5 hours. It set into a kind of claylike helmet. I rinsed it out in the shower (very messy) and found that putting tons of liquid conditioner in my hair really helped rinse out the cocoa butter. Then I washed twice. My hair is slightly darker brown with very pretty red/auburn highlights. It's not brassy or copper. I love it! And it's noticeably shinier and softer. I'm tempted try marrón next :)
