1. Place your treatment in a heatproof container and boil some water in a kettle. 2. Slowly add several ounces of boiling-hot water to the solid treatment and stir gently using the wooden stick. Take your time, adding water as needed, and allowing the product to thicken until you're left with an empty stick and a rich, creamy treatment. This should take around five minutes. 3. When it's cool enough to touch, apply to dry hair and leave for around 20 minutes to allow the ingredients to get to work replenishing your hair. Shampoo out and admire your luscious locks! Made too much? Keep your mix for conditioning top-ups for up to four weeks.

Some people are using it wrong

This product is wonderful on my itchy, dry scalp and makes my hair feels stronger. It's not what I expected for a hot oil treatment. It feels more like a protein mask than a conditioning treatment which is what my hair needs. I melted it in a mason jar over boiling water and added a little over a cup of water into it. I have long straight hair almost touching my butt and I expect to get 3-5 uses out of just one. I keep it in the fridge because I don't know how it preserves but to reheat it, I just create another double broiler.

I was expecting a tingle and did not get it but what I got was well moisturized and defined kinky curly hair! Followed it up with Wasabi shampoo and my hair could not be happier. :)

Something is different in the recipe

I have been using and enjoying this product for years but the last ones I purchased were different, they melted different. Was like glue in my hair and very hard to wash out. It was very rubbery in consistency. Not the hair treatment from the past.

Nope. Simply Nope.

I read other reviews regarding this an chalked most of the complaints up to incorrect use. However, I, thankfully took away a few nuggets from other reviews on best used contrary to Lush's online instructions. For example DO NOT, repeat DO NOT use all of this at once, you will be sorry. Cut into 4 pieces, as per one reviewers suggestion. I listened, and split that between my BF and I. This Hell goes on smooth enough but after it dries is when the fun begins. BF complained it was hard to get out of his buzzed hair, my hair is past my knees, I was in trouble. Once this dries it turns into wax like balls and it's IMPOSSIBLE to get out in one wash. It makes hair heavy and knots it to the heavens. I washed my hair last night, when it dried I found wax balls in it, again this AM with another wash (better) but I will have to wash again tonight. I think after the 4th wash the wax pellets should be gone. First, EVER, lush product I 100% hate, and will be returning the additional boxing day purchase and if I cannot return it will end up in the trash.

Renewed my sad, dry hair.

Whoever recommended splitting this into 4 equal pieces in a previous review is a Saint! My hair is fine but I have lots of it! It falls an inch or so below my bust. I've been struggling with dry ends (albeit, I am overdue for a cut) for a while. I chopped this into 4 quarters and used one quarter with a fair amount of very hot water (adding gradually) for today's treatment. I made sure it was like a yogurt consistency before applying. I put my hair up in a pony tail and applied the treatment to only the bottom third of my hair. I washed with a non-lush shampoo and 1 wash was all it took. My ends feel great and smell even better! TLDR; use it in quarters, works like a charm!

The negative reviews below might be from people for which these products are not intended for. I am some what certain these treatments and ones like it are intended for textured/natural African American hair. As someone with this hair type - I AM IN LOVE! Once dissolved, the consistency of the treatment is decadent and you can easily get more than one use out of a single block. Highly recommend!!

Hair feels amazing, scalp is angry!

I used this product as recommended, and I found that it shampoo'd out easily. My hair feels soft and smells amazing, but I left it in for an hour. Maybe that was too long because my scalp started to itch, and now some parts of my scalp are kind of raw and yellow/crusty feeling?? So beware if you have a sensitive scalp, maybe I'll leave it on for less time for the rest, and avoid my scalp. Love it otherwise!

This is the only product lush has released that I really am not a big fan of. It made me hair very soft but it's been three days, I have washed my hair three times, and my hair is still greasy and heavy. I have very thick hair, and it's matted down like I haven't showered in a week.

DONT BUY unless you want to shower a minimum of 5 times

I love lush. Every couple of months i spend a minimum of 150-200$ in lush. I love it that much. But this product sucks. Its not worth shampooing for 5 times. This product should be burnt down immediately. Cannot stress enough how awful this product is

Best to cut into smaller pieces

I have no idea why people hate on this treatment. My only guess is maybe they use too much product, and therefore it takes longer to rinse out such an excess. My hair is average thickness, and is past my shoulders/upper back. I cut each treatment into 4 pieces, and boil about 1/4 c of water for a minute in the microwave. I add the water to the treatment slowly, probably using only about 2-3 tablespoons until it is all melted. It gets too drippy with too much water. You do need patience to rinse it all out, but my hair ends up shiny and smells amazing after use. I'm sad to see it go.
