The Brave Heart Women’s Society

The Brave Hear Society is a partner of Running Strong for American Indian Youth. In 1994, the Brave Heart Society was formed by a community of grandmothers on the Yankton Reservation in South Dakota with the mission of bringing back traditional knowledge and empowering Native American youth, particularly young women. Through traditional ceremonies, language classes, community projects and other culturally-based programs, the Society aims to revive traditional practices and create a strong foundation of identity for Native American young people.

How we helped

Funds from Charity Pot go towards support for programs for Native American grassroots activism on issues surrounding the KXL pipeline, including a conference on women’s issues and a protest gathering on the destruction of spiritual and heritage sites.
