The Ripple Effect (TRE) works to improve the quality of life of the Ixil Maya people, who live in 20 villages in the Quiché department in northern Guatemala, a region torn apart by 36 years of civil war. The Ripple Effect’s work addresses family gardens, sustainable agriculture, high protein and nutritional plants, medicinal herbs, clean water and sanitation.
This grant will help TRE by providing latrines to 70 families in Los Encuentros, Quiché. The families in this region have neither latrines nor potable water: their drinking water comes from open pits dug out of the clay soil to trap water that quickly becomes contaminated. Lush is providing the funding for every family to have a latrine, which will greatly improve the sanitation of the community and their drinking water.
