Bakken Pipeline Resistance Coalition

We are a coalition of 30 organizations representing landowners, community members and non-profits united to stop the construction of the Bakken pipeline. The 1100 mile Bakken pipeline will carry 24 million gallons of toxic crude oil from North Dakota through Iowa, tunneling through 350 miles of some of the richest remaining farmland in the world, and beneath the Missouri, Des Moines, and Mississippi Rivers. As a collective, we have worked together since late summer 2014 building a state-wide, grassroots movement, working closely with tribal nations in and beyond Iowa.

How we helped

Charity Pot funding will help us to gain momentum as we collectively organize to stop the pipeline. Dakota Access LLC, a subsidiary of Energy Transfer Partners, has successfully petitioned the Iowa Utilities Board to begin construction even though its permit is still under review by US Army Corps. Condemnation hearings have begun for the farmland where landowners have resisted the bullying of the oil company. The company was even granted permission from the state to bore beneath a recently discovered sacred burial site in its path in northwestern Iowa, in the Big Sioux wildlife area, despite objections of tribes.
