Plastic pollution has become a global ecological threat, due to a disposable culture that sends single-use items like packaging, straws and bottles directly to landfills, incinerators, and the environment. These plastics harm marine life and threaten the ocean ecosystems that sustain all of us. 5 Gyres leverages our first-hand research to engage people in policy and design solutions, inspiring a movement of ocean advocates. How we helped

Lush’s support for our microbeads campaign has been an invaluable help to further our mission of community engagement around solutions to plastic pollution. In 2015, Lush's partnership helped us to expand our messaging and action to thousands of new audience members across the US and beyond. In the final weeks of 2015, President Obama signed a strong Federal bill to ban microbeads from commerce - Lush's support helped to make this happen! In 2016, with support from the Charity Pot program, we are expanding our campaign to create an even stronger community of citizens and leaders inspired to take action. We are thrilled to partner with Lush, and excited about the next phase of our microbeads campaign.
