Komera

In Rwanda, “Komera” means “be strong, have courage.” Komera was created in rural Rwanda to assist girls who have the courage and desire to pursue secondary education, but who lack the resources to do so. Komera develops self-confident young women through education, community and sport. They believe that if Komera fulfills its mission, young women in Rwanda will have the confidence to lead positive social change in their community, experience the joy of self discovery and realize their own personal potential.

How we helped

"The Charity Pot donation allowed us to support 72 vulnerable adolescent girls in rural Rwanda. The investment will help provide training to empower young women to become agents of social change within their own communities. Lush provided water and snacks for more than 400 elementary school girls who attended the Komera Global Run in Rwanda in June 2016. While students are at boarding schools they need materials. Lush provided 8 of our students with everything they could possibly need for the year to be successful including: books, personal hygiene, bedding, clothes, pens, bags, shoes, uniforms and healthcare. The majority of the grant is allocated to our Post Secondary Transition program, a 9-month long program after graduation of secondary school. The students receive English language training, learn how to use computers, receive assistance with applying to universities and enter a business incubator program. During the business incubator, our students launch small ventures to create social change in their communities.
