Keepers of the Athabasca Watershed Society
We are First Nations, Métis, Inuit, environmental groups, and Watershed citizens working together for the protection of water, land, air, and all living things today and tomorrow in the Athabasca River Watershed. We work to build awareness of health and environmental risks of extreme oil extraction and pipeline developments throughout the Athabasca Basin, and key related issues including: extreme fresh water use for in situ development; water contamination in underground aquifers; little or no monitoring of SAGD/in situ extraction, cumulative effects, climate change, ignoring human health and human rights, Indigenous rights and governance for land, air and water use.
