The Environmental Resource Center (ERC) of the Wood River Valley in South Central Idaho is working to reduce the use of pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers in its Pesticide Action Program. To accomplish this, the ERC is educating to activate - encouraging individuals, businesses, governments and agencies to recognize the effects we have on our natural environment; take responsibility for these actions; and make changes to create a healthier environment and community for future generations.
How we helped
"The Environmental Resource Center is a small non-profit organization with a large impact in the Wood River Valley. Many of the services we provide to our community are free of charge thanks to the generosity of businesses like Lush.
Chemicals used in everyday pest management practices are unnecessarily exposing our community to carcinogens, asthmagens and developmental toxins. Throughout the year, community members are exposed several times daily to these harmful chemical agents often without their knowledge or consent. Not only are community members exposed to these harsh chemicals directly when they are used on physical spaces but these same chemicals are also leaching into our soils and water systems, negatively impacting environmental health.
With support from Lush, the ERC will continue to promote initiatives and awareness around Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies where alternatives to chemicals are used first and foremost, and chemicals, when used, are used in small quantities and as a last resort."
