Calming for sensitive skin

Jackie Oates is a light, soothing and gentle base for very pale skin types with cooler undertones, which are often sensitive and prone to redness. If you’re not sure whether you have warm or cool undertones, take a look at your wrists. Are your veins blue in color? If so, you have cooler undertones. Helen Ambrosen (LUSH co-founder) used soothing oats and honey, and the moisturizing, protective qualities of lanolin to calm and hydrate. The result? A perfect porcelain finish.

Features

  • For ivory tones: Jackie Oates is for extremely pale skin tones with a light bluish undertone.
  • Less is more: Pale skin tends to be very sensitive, so we suggest mixing your favorite moisturizer or sunscreen into your supplement.
  • Soya oil: We use soya oil in our supplements instead of mineral oil, so the skin stays flexible and nourished.

I bought this to mix with my "dark yellow" base (from lush) as my tan is all but totally gone, and dark yellow was getting too dark. I would have bought "light yellow", but as I have rather sensitive skin, I was enticed by the fact that this one has particularily soothing ingredients. What a surprise it was when I smeared it onto my cheek, and... it matched!

I have had people guess I am mexican or latino, and have olive toned, readily tanning skin. I have yet to be described as ivory toned! Now, I realize that I am pretty light now (as I havn't seen the sun since last summer), but I still would never call myself porcelin skinned. I won't complain, though, I am delighted that it fits my color.

Seeing as this is my first day wearing it, I don't yet know if it is effective to soothe redness, but it has yet to actually irritate me, so that's good.

I like to mix it with my moisturiser in the morning, which gives pretty light coverage, and then I do a mineral powder foundation on top. I will likely use it for concealer also.

I was waiting for lush to release makeup, i didn't expect them to make my FAVORITE item - blendable tint. You can have as sheer or as concentrated coverage as you want. Unfortunately this formula is SO GREASY that I can't wear it without feeling it on my skin, and it causes me to break out severely.
Talk to the people at lush about combining this with Grease Lightning or another matting agent to get the most out of this product. Don't give up on it immediately as I did :C , it has fantastic potential on the right person. (Maybe someone with excessivley dry skin?)

      Comments about LUSH Jackie Oates:

Most other drug store foundations I have used in the past have been too heavy, too cakey, or too harsh on my sensitive skin. I love this foundation because it is very light and has a calming effect on my skin. I use just a thin layer to even my skin tone, or sometimes I mix it with my moisturizer. I also use it over problem spots - it covers well and lasts the day. I have super pale skin and I love that it light enough to match and doesn't make me look cakey!

      Comments about LUSH Jackie Oates:

I put this on right after I wash my face with "9 to 5", spray it with "Eau Roma Water" and moisturize it with "Celestial".
I love this product, mostly because it evens out my skin tone, and is exactly my skin color.
At first I tried applying it with a brush but it didn't quite look right, so I apply it with my fingers. To be honest, this product + the ones I recommend below highten my self esteem, and I feel really great with them on.

I've tried layering it a little, and on my nose, it seems a little cakey, but that may be only because I have really dry skin. Besides on my nose, and rare blemishes, I'd say it gives near flawless coverage. I love it. But if you have many blemishes, I'd say it's more of a light coverage product.

Thank you Lush! I love this colour! When the colour supplements first came out, the light pink and light yellow were both just slightly off from my skin tone. I am very pale (half ginger). I tried on Jackie Oats in store with the help of a Lush employee. To my delight the colour blended in perfect with my skin tone!

My skin is combination - some parts are oily, others are dry. I also get the occasional hormonal breakouts (my Lush cleansing routine has helped to remedy that). This colour supplement makes the skin dewy (perhaps a little oily on some skin types), however I use the emotional brilliance face powder in combination with this supplement and it is perfect. It gives a matte look and helps keep the colour supplement set on my skin. I tend to sweat easily (and a lot) and it stayed well on my skin - no caking; no flaking. Also, I use the 'A Million Kisses' red lip tint as a blush over top the supplement and powder - it stays put all day (note: use only a very small amount of tint!)

I have sensitive skin as well and this does not bother me in the least. It does not feel heavy on my face - very lightweight. I tend to mix it in with my moisturizer too - for a light coverage to even out my skin tone.

I think this product is a great steal - a little goes a long way so this pot will last quite a while. Give it a try!

      Comments about LUSH Jackie Oates:

I have mixed feelings about this products there are a several things I love, and a couple I really don't.

I was surprised at how light the coverage was when I used this. I expected to have to mix it with a moisturizer, but even when I put it on as is it didn't cover any significant redness and definitely didn't hide any acne.

On the other hand I love love love how this feels! It's moisturizing, but not greasy doesn't stick to dry skin and felt soothing on my very sensitive skin.

I am also so thankful to have found this since it is almost impossible to find any foundation or concealer to match my pale skin. This is a perfect match for me, unfortunately I had to use a less perfect match on top of it to cover my blemishes.

If this had more coverage I would give it five stars and never use anything else.

I apply this directly out of the container with my dual-haired make up brushes and it applies smoothy and evenly with great coverage. Perfect for the summer, matches my skin tone perfectly. I like to set this with Make Up Forever's HD Finishing powder.

Only con that I found was that it has a strong smell. While it isn't offensive I do find that I am sensitive to it, I get a runny/stuffy nose for the first 20mins or so.

        Comments about LUSH Jackie Oates:

As other reviewers have mentioned, this product definitely works best when combined with a moisturizer. For some reason when I apply it directly to my skin, even freshly moisturized skin, it dries up and flakes a few hours later. As long as I mix it with a moisturizer this gives me fresh looking skin, light coverage with a pretty glow. One of my favourite things about this product is that the finish is "dewy" as opposed to "matte." I find it hard to find good foundations with a dewy finish as the market seems to be dominated by "mattifying" products. However, if you have oiler skin, (my skin is normal/slightly dry) you may find this makes your skin greasy as opposed to dewy as other reviewers have mentioned. If you are considering using this product (I was hesitant because I thought it might clog my skin, it did not). I say go for it. A little goes a long way so it lasts a long time and performs just as well as department store foundations which start at $30 and go up up up.

        Comments about LUSH Jackie Oates:

When I first used this product, I made three big mistakes: 1) using it by itself and 2) trying to layer it like a concealer, and 3) using it with a moisturizer that wasn't Lush brand. After discovering 1, 2 and 3 weren't gonna fly, I will NEVER go back to using anything else. When I tried using it by itself (after applying a moisturizer) it clumped and flaked, did not blend well. I decided it might be better to use it mixed with a moisturizer, but I mixed it with cheap drug store moisturizer which caused it to change to a sort of weird orange-ish colour.

Long story short, I tried one more time, this time mixing it with Lush moisturizer and BOY am I glad I did! Amazing results! Normally my skin tone is so pale only one brand I could ever find made foundation white enough to match me (L'oreal Trumatch liquid foundation, for reference for any whiteys out there with the same problem looking for a good match) but Jackie Oates is PERFECT and clogs my pores much less. The coverage when mixed with Lush moisturizer is fantastic, and my only criticism is that I absolutely could not layer it over breakout spots on my skin and had to use my old foundation on those spots. Other than that, it is just amazing, I can't stress enough how awesome it is! It doesn't give you that fake, cakey make-up look and is amazingly natural. The only reason I rated it 4/5 is because of my layering issues! Also, I didn't really know what "a little goes a long way" truly meant until I tried this product, and other lush products for that matter.

          Comments about LUSH Jackie Oates:

If you have extremely pale skin and have trouble finding the right colour foundation, I would absolutely recommend this. The colour in the pot actually looks fairly dark, but as it blends in the colour lightens up significantly, so it might be a good idea to check it out before you buy it.

I love love love this product, but I do find when I mix it with moisturizer, it tends to get "flakey". So instead I put on my moisturizer and wait a while for it to dry. I put the product directly where my skin is uneven and blend it out. It blends really well so I only put it in areas I need it.

I do find this is moisturizing and leaves a "dewy" finish, so if your skin is a bit oily, it is a good idea to finish with a powder. If your skin is really oily this might not be the best product!

I did not expect this product to be as good as it is, but I was pleasantly surprised. I don't normally wear foundation, but I do have dark-ish bags under my eyes. Jackie Oats works well, a little goes a LONG way. Covered the circles no problem and looks very natural. As the other reviews have mentioned, it is a bit greasy and since I wear glasses, the foundation was wearing away where my glasses sit. Easy fix - put some powder concealer on top (Lush or any brand) and this keeps it in place and takes away the oily finish.

Amazing product! Lasts for a long time. Will recommend to other pale kids :)

I have very fair skin, freckles, and permanently rosy cheeks- no blush needed here! I had almost given up on finding a foundation; everything was too pale, too yellow, or too pink. I was given a sample of this and I haven't looked back. It's easy to use, covers up any blotchiness, and makes my skin look perfect (if still extremely pale, sigh) One thing to watch out for is you do not need very much, too much and you can end up looking pasty and cakey.

I use it alone but I also use it under OR dab it over my regular foundation for extra coverage. Doesn't bother my skin at all. Please make other shades!

                      Comments about LUSH Jackie Oates:

All my life I've been searching for a perfect pale foundation, but they were never the right shade for my pale pale skin--or perfect, & they'd always make me look "flaky" (dry), but Jackie Oates actually makes my skin look AMAZING! I've never been happier with a foundation!

I thought that there was something wrong with my skin, but after buying/using LUSH (everything!), my skin is better, & so I'm always going to buy LUSH products forever!

How I use this product: After I use Coalface (a cleanser that, btw, got rid of my blemishes!), the Tea Tree Water (toner) & Imperialis (moisturizer) (all at night & all right for MY skin type!), I just rinse my face with a little bit of water in the morning & I like to use a primer (it's your choice if you want to use it or not) then I put on Jackie Oates (you could also use a moisturizer with it; you'd put it on before or with the foundation) then, because my skin shines when I work, I seal it with a powder. I highly recommend you go for something that doesn't use any chemicals... This product is awesome!

I put Jackie on my skin right after I moisturize and I get great coverage :)

                      Comments about LUSH Jackie Oates:

                          A:

The shelf-life for all of the Colour Supplements is 14 months. There should be a smiley face sticker on your Jackie Oates representing the person that handmade it, as well as the date it was made and the date it is best if used before.
