I'm in my 20's and have sensitive acne prone skin, as a ginger with freckles and acne I turn into a red and pink spotted nightmare if my skin care products arent just right.

Yes this product can be messy, but it absorbs oil without drying and exfoliates. During the summer I use it every other day in the shower and alternate with Aqua Marina, in the winter I use it twice a week alternating with Fresh Farmacy. Its important to use a toner with this product, just to make sure all traces are removed. If you have acne you have to moisturize! No if ands or buts.

I love this cleanser! It exfoliates like no other, leaving my skin bright, smooth, clean, etc. And you only need a pea size every time ! I am in love!

P.S. I don't think I would recommends this to anyone with duper duper dry or sensitive skin, the exfolitating may be to harsh...

This stuff is AMAZING. Perfect for my teenage skin. I'd tried Herbalism and Angels on Bare Skin but neither of those gave me the 'clean' feeling that this does. I must admit, the scent isn't for everyone. Kind of like black liquorice without any sweetness to it.. But luckily I love that smell. And oh my god. It is SO FUN to use. Easier in the shower, definitely.

I found something helpful out while using it, too. If you, like me, found that you couldn't get a bit of the blackness off afterwards, use it with a facecloth every single time (one you don't mind getting a bit messy). Scrub your face lightly with a cloth while removing it, and it'll usually take off the excess much better than just your hands and water can.

This stuff saved my skin! If you feel some of the other cleansers aren't quite cleansing you properly, give this a try.

I honestly have to say that I have extremely problematic skin, and tend to break out all the time. In terms of its effectiveness with acne, I'm not quite sure yet, as i've been using it for a little over a week, and I don't think I'm seeing any outstanding difference; in fact, I have broken out a bit on my forehead.
I'm not sure if that's because of the cleanser, or because it's that time of month, school just started, and i just began a very intense hot yoga workout.
Aside from the zits though, it makes my skin feel fantastic, and it doesn't get oily at all throughout the day. It's a great cleanser in general, and I use it with the tea tree toner and the enzymion moisturizer, as recommended to me by the woman who was helping me at the time.
Already, I like it better than the Proactiv system I was using before, which just seemed to aggravate my acne.
Also, I noticed that a LOT of people consider this cleanser to be very messy, but I beg to differ. It's actually pretty simple, and if you apply it the way you're supposed to, it doesn't give any problems at all. All you have to do is put a small chunk of the cleanser in your hand, and add a little water, so it has a paste-ey texture, and then apply it to your face, as you would a mask. And then scrub and wash! It's a lot easier than it sounds, so I'd really recommend at least giving it a shot.

The first couple times I used it, it was great! The third time I used it in the shower and when I came out my face in neck were covered in black grime! It looked like I was working the day in a coal mine. I had to wash my face with another cleanser to get rid of it. It works great for occasional exfoliation to get rid of dead skin cells, but not something I would use everyday. It is a great cleanser though! The first time I used it my face felt so fresh and clean, but I think it's irritating my skin, maybe I scrub too hard.
The scent is actually horrible, it's like really strong black licorice. I could not breathe the first time I used it because it was so strong.

I would recommend this in small quantities for use once or twice a week, but no more.

I've been using this every day and night for about three weeks now because my acne around my chin was getting unbearably bad, which is weird as I just turned 20 and my skin wasn't this bad in high school, however the rest of my face was doing pretty great, so I thought I needed to bust into lush and see what kind of acne products they had. I've tried Coalface before but I just didn't love the bar format, and it left my face just slightly too tight, and since I use a scrub every day I thought this would be perfect. So far I must admit that as a clearing agent for my spots it hasn't helped thaaat much, however my breakouts are finally coming out of my skin (they were beneath the skin before), so that might be for the best and I'm going to stick with this. On the other side, the parts of my skin that weren't spotty look and feel fantastic since I've started using this. It's made having those spots a lot more bearable since their canvas just looks so darn good! I'm pretty happy with this. I thought people were exagerating when they said this was messy for sink use, but no, they're not, it does make a mess. I also find in the shower its a lot harder to make sure I've got it all off my face, sometimes I come out with dark marks. Another thing I haven't seen addressed in any reviews is that this stains the underside of my nails black in some spots! Frustrating. Overall I am quite happy with this product, and will likely stick with it for a while to see if its helping clear out my under skin acne.

I only use this in the shower, as it is really messy. In fact, it makes my shower look dirty after use and requires a bit of scrubbing to get it off. I'm not crazy about the smell (honestly smells like dirt), but I wanted something that would cleanse, exfoliate and help with blemises, which this does perfectly. Just make sure to rinse well!

I really wanted to like this product, but it just didn't work for me. First and foremost, it's awfully messy- washing it off with water doesn't do the trick. Literally, you have to use another cleanser to get all of the residue off of your face. And, don't get me started on the mess it makes in my shower. The messiness of this product isn't the only problem that I have with it ,unfortunately. The day after I used this product, I started breaking out like crazy and it was probably the worst breakout I've ever had. I will not be repurchasing this product & I will probably throw it out within the next few days. Very unfortunate that I spent a lot of money on this product and that it live up to my expectations.

This scrub has helped me so much! I have oily skin and was acne-prone in my youth, so from time to time I still get break outs. This makes me feel SO CLEAN, it strips the oil but doesn't leave your skin raw and dry, my cheeks are so soft.
Definitely a heavy exfoliant, but if that's what you're going for it's perfect! If you were looking for a softer exfoliant, I'd reccommend Angels on Bare Skin instead. LOVE THIS SCRUB, changing my life. My skin's never glowed so much.

I got this as a sample and I love it. It has the texture of Angels on Bare Skin which I really like and the excellent exfoliating property of Ocean Salt (but doesn't dry out your skin like Ocean Salt because there is no alcohol in it). What a perfect combination! It can't get any better. I have really dry skin and this is supposed to strip away all the oil so I don't know if it's necessarily good for my skin. But I don't care, I can use Skin's Shangri La moisturizer after.
Yes it's a little messy but you will get over it, just be extra careful. And there is really no residue like many people say so don't worry, they justprobably didn't rinse well.

I got quite a large sample of this from my local lush along with other products. And I have been looking for another cleanser for a while. I have acne prone skin that is very oily by the afternoon, however it is also combination and can be quite dry in certain areas during certain times of the month.
This cleanser cleans well, removes make up and soaks up excess sebum. HOWEVER exfoliating with little granules can irritate the skin leaving it red in certain areas and also increase bumps and acne. This is a lesson I learned when I was younger which leads to wanting to exfoliate more to get rid of the acne and then the vicious circle continues....
If this works for you, or granules in your scrubs are an asset to your cleansing regime then great! But if you're anything like me, then stay far far away from this guy!
I will be testing the other cleansers such as Fresh Farmacy and hopefully Coalface (assuming it's powdered charcoal isn't too grainy) and will let you all know how those go.

What Can I say about this product. I am an Avid Lush buyer and have tried many of their products! I don't live to close to one so I kind of stock up once I go in and this is always at the top of my list! It is by far my favorite product ever! And I'm not just talking Lush products! This cleaner exfoliates and really leaves a smooth fresh feeling all over your face! I travel with this everywhere and love the coal on my face because I can really feel it working. I actually took it to India with me for my soon to be sister-in-laws wedding two years back and was thankful I had this after we played the festival of Holi (They throw concentrated colors on you!) I was pink blue yellow green purple and so much more than my actual skin color after playing Holi and nothing was able to get it out of our skins and hair! Luckily I pulled out my Dark Angels and they scrubbed it all of like nothing! I became a hero for having this with me and we were some of the few who regained our natural skin tones after playing Holi! I loved it before but after that incident it has become like an arm to me! I can not live without it! I even have very sensitive skin and even I find it doesn't bother me. Mind you I'm a no pain no gain sorta girl! But if you're looking for an exfoliator that does the job and so much more and you aren't afraid of seeing your sink turn all black after this is the perfect product! LOVE IT!!!!

I used this product first time in the shower by taking a little bit, mixing with water to make a paste. It was kinda hard to do and very messy but it felt nice and smelled nice...until I got out of the shower and looked in the mirror! My face was black! I tried using toner to get it off but that didn't work. I had to scrub my face with ocean salt (which I absolutely love by the way) to get it off. After reading some reviews I mixed water right into the container to make a paste, I even thinned it out a lot but same thing! Glad I only got a sample

I have always had seriously iffy skin. It reacts to nearly everything. But I have had quiet a lot of success with this product! I also used LUSH's Grease Lightening, but found that it sometimes made my skin too dry and patchy.

Dark Angels seems strange at first when you apply it. Immediately I thought "What the heck, this is so messy! Its getting everywhere!" I was wearing a white shirt and it ran down my arms and got all over that. I was surprised though, that it came out immediately. It didn't stain my shirt or face. It took a bit of extra wiping to make sure there were no bits on my face.

It has left my skin feeling very evenly-toned and extra smooth and soft. I am really blown away by this. I will definitely buy more when I run out!

OK, I love this! Weird smell, black, messy are only cons.... like the ingredients and heres the way around the mess: wet face, take just enough, wash face, rinse face, take face cloth, wet and use to wipe of remaining. Follow with tea tree toner. I like this product ALOT! and now just wondering... why can't I add it to my wishlist?

This product helped my face so much. I used to have alot of acne on my face, and Dark Angels has cleared it right up. I am hesitant to use it in the shower because if you get any water in the container the product seems to mold. Other than it being messy, this is a great product!

I love how it leaves my skin matte and that it deep cleans but unfortunately, it broke me out. I'm very disappointed! Although I continue to use it , I do not see any improvement .. I'm a devoted lushie but I guess this product was not right for me :(.

This product is great! I use it twice a day actually! Firstly, I wet my face with very hot water and a cloth. I just use a little bit less than normal and add a bit more water, rub it in and rinse well with the cloth and very hot water. It can make a bit of a mess if your not careful! I finish it up with Tea Tree Toner for my acne and I've seen results within the first week. Dark Angels and the hot water break down a protective oil layer on the acne called Sebum. Then the Tea Tree Toner with it's anti-bacterial properties kills the stuff that causes acne. It's great all around. For someone with a cleanser I'd suggest using this two to three times a week in the evening and then following up with a toner.

I was actually shocked to see only 3 stars for this product because this product has made such a difference in my skin. My skin feels smoother, looks brighter and is far less oily.

I use this product in my shower daily after cleansing my skin. I take a small piece of the product in my palm and add some water. I massage this product into my palm until it is a paste consistency and then use that to scrub my face. After showering I use the Tea Tree Water Toner all over and Grease Lighting on any acne prone spots.
