This was actually my first LUSH product that I bought. I had come in a little skeptical that they would be able to give me anything to help with my face - but I was completely wrong! I have oily, acne prone skin and my face is littered with brown spots from past breakouts. Coal face has honestly helped out my face so much, it smells brilliant, and it leaves my skin with a squeaky clean feeling, and I've noticed that it smooths and fades some of my brown spots (Over a period of time). Depending on the day, or how my skin is in the morning or afternoon, I usually apply the bar directly to my face if I'm in need of a scrub. It clears the oils on my face, and leaves my face feeling happy and fresh. It's a life saver for when I'm breaking out during my monthly cycle.
A word of warning - if you have sensitive skin I would NOT recommend you using this product. The exfoliants in the soap are rough and would probably not benefit you.
Personally I usually apply the bar directly to my face first, and then I rinse it off, and then I just lather up the bar and wash my face once more. I find that my skin feels much cleaner this way - but it may not be the way for you.

Overall, I love Coalface and I never - yes, never - plan on buying any other face wash again (Psst, please dont stop making it!)

I tried this because a LUSH employee recommended it for me. I have oily acne prone skin. I bought a small chunk about 70 grams. The product smells like black licorice and has a pretty shimmering appearance. I don't like the scent at all but I was willing to stand it if it worked. When you apply it you need to lather up the bar and use your hands to apply the suds it's a bit messy but not to bad. It does not exfoliate unless you apply the bar directly on your face and then it's kind of rough on your skin. This product reduced some of the oiliness but doesn't leave a fresh clean feeling. If you are looking for a amazing cleanser that exfoliates try Ocean Salt it's more expensive but it's worth it!

My skin is oily in the summer and combo during winter. I use this product at night since it is very cleansing. Its a lifesaver, my skins clearer than before. It leaves my face feeling squeaky clean which is a must at night. The only issue is the smell isnt the most pleasant, but its not that big of a deal. It also lasts quite a while. I usually buy 100 grams for 2 or 3 months since i use it only at night. Its perfect, for oily and acne prone skin. Try it out, its the best cleanser from lush for my skin by far.

I hope Lush never stops making this product. For the first time in my life, my skin is clear and happy. I don't bother with foundation anymore!

My skin (formerly an oil slick by 1 pm) stays fairly oil free throughout the day, so I'm not scrambling for my powder compact anymore.

I was skeptical and wary of the price when I bought it, but a friend swore by it. After one use, I was hooked. All I need now is my coalface and a light moisturizer.

I decided to try Coalface out after reading some of the reviews. I have combination skin (typical T-zone oiliness) and have a good amount of blackheads on my nose. I get the occasional flare up of a pimple or two.

Even after my first use, I was impressed by this product. My skin felt clean, but it wasn't tight. Even out of the shower, it appeared balanced (no redness). I felt like I could've skipped my next steps in my skin care routine all together. In my few uses, my blackheads appear smaller right out of the shower. Over the day, they tend to develop, but I am noticing they are more spread out, so clearly the product is working.

While I don't mind the smell, I can see how some would, so I noted that.

You never think getting dirty can be so much fun and good for you. With Coalface, I have noticed a big difference. I had used as much products that I could handle with quick results that don't last long, drying out my skin, not working, or just plain out aggrivating my sensitive skin. With coalface... none of that happens!
I love this product. It last a very long time not just on your skin but also in the bar form you bought it as.
I will tell you at first I was a bit nervous about the pieces of coal since I have sensitive skin and have a skin problem called Dermographism (skin writing). After the first time using this product, nothing but good has come outta the money I have paid for this product. I can't tell you how much I love it and will continue to purchase it.

I started using Coalface this past May after I came back from an extended trip throughout Europe. I had originally used the Fresh Farmacy, and although it worked wonders to clear up any breakouts or spots I would have, I found it dried my skin out far too much; this is likely due to the fact that Fresh Farmacy works better for acne-prone skin. I switched to Coalface after an employee at one of the Lush stores recommended it. It is literally a life-saving product! Not only does it take care of any breakouts/spots, but it also keeps my skin from becoming too oily, doesn't overly dry out my skin, and it makes my skin less susceptible to breakouts even though I wear foundation everday. In short, if you have problem/combination/oily skin, and are looking for a cleanser to handle breakouts, oily skin, or even redness, then this is the cleanser for you. I use it everyday, and even after 6 months, it is still just as effective as the first day I started using it. It's a must have, for sure.

I am totally a 'Budget Buyer' but I LOVE to splurge on this soap!!! It is incredible. Clears my skin and leave my skin feeling so fresh that I hate putting makeup on afterwards!

Seriously in love with this product.

Only issue: It can be messy- the black soap leaves resedue on the soap holder.... but I'd hardly call that a fault.

This one didnt work for me, I do have senstive skin but I was experiencing breakouts and lots of oil so I thought Id give it a go. It dried me out a little too effectively and the charcoal bits actually scratched my skin, and I dont scrub at my face likes its dirty grout either. This product would probably work better for someone else though, it did help with the oil and acne but was just too much of a good thing

Really love this, I've been using it every day for months and haven't noticed any decrease in effectiveness, which I often find a problem with other cleansers. Can be messy, just store it in a dry place.

This product has literally changed the appearance of my skin! I haven't had a break out since i started using Coal Face. It has cleared my blemishes and smoothed out the tone and texture of my skin. I love that it exfoliates while it cleanses to keep skin super clean. I would recommend using coal face with a very hydrating moisturizer for it can be a bit drying. I use it with Lush Gorgeous cream for the perfect balance. If you have oily, ance prone or blemish riddled skin try coal face!

After a few days of using this product..I noticed my skin looked more even and clear..the redness and blemishes were significantly reduced. It makes a mess when you put it down but and I would prefer a larger bar but I highly recommend this product :)

I really really DON'T like the smell. That is basically the number 1 problem. It is gentle and the scrubbies in it feel really nice on your face but then when the smell hits your nose it makes me wanna throw the bar at the wall... lol
but if you really don't care about the smell its really nice and best for in-shower use because it is messy!

I was a little weirded out by the BLACK colour of this product, plus the licorice smell, but the reviews sounded like it was amazing on oily skin, which I have.

I'm on day 2 of using this, and I LOVE it. I really despise the smell, but I'm willing to bear it for the sake of lovely skin.

For the longest time I've been using the same face cleanser. When I find something that works, I stick to it even if there's something better out there. Nevertheless I decided to take a chance on coalface and I wasn't disappointed. I love the smell, the amazing exfoliating and clean feeling. The only downside I've ever had was it turns my white face cloth black & grey. Not a huge issue (especially if you don't use a cloth) just don't use your best linens.

Love this product. However it is very messy in the shower, leaves big black spot whenever it is put down. Other than that is does wonders on my skin so I'm happy with it.

Thanks to genetics, I have skin that's severely acne-prone. I've tried tons of other products but what I love about this is that it's so much more natural.

I use this on a daily basis in the morning and at night along with Grease Lightning and Vanishing cream. I find that this really helps control the oil on my face as well as really helps clear up my skin. I adore this

I tried this guy out, after using Dark Angels as a daily cleasner, and though with that it did not irritate my skin, it prevented a 'tough' outer layer from forming, causing lots of irritation from other products and the wind. This guy upon first use left my skin feeling like it was two sizes too small for my face. I have found a way around this; the reason it has four stars and not three (and if I didn't have to make up for it being drying it'd have five. TO USE: Lather in hands, rub lather all over face, massaging, rinse hands, MY TIP: grab a face cloth and get it wet under very hot water, and rinse face with cloth by moving it in small circles, frequently rinse product from cloth. This for one reason or another prevents it from leaving that tight soapy-layer!

I love this product. I have oily skin, but at the same time my skin dries out really easily in certain areas. I have only used this product twice and I can already see a big difference. My complexion has evened out and my skin is no longer oily or dry. Even though I dont like the smell of licorice, I dont find the smell of this product too strong or overwhelming.
