My hair is naturally a very dark brown, and to be honest, I wish I knew the commitment to henna before I used it. But more about that later.. The first time I used henna, I used the whole block on my fair short [shoulder length] hair. I have very thick hair, and even then there was plenty. I wanted a very red look, so I left it on for about 10 hours. I just wrapped my head in cling wrap and paper towels and slept with it in. When I awoke, I washed it twice and conditioned. That was a mistake. Anyways, my hair took the colour alright.. It turned a dark fiery auburn, which lit up and sparkled in the sun. It was pretty, but not very bright. After dying it a few more times, I've gotten it to a beautiful dark auburn, which I do like. Throughout this process, I learned the best way to dye with henna. Here's some tips.
1. Mix the henna with hot coffee. It takes away the orange, and turns it into a deeper red.
2. Pretreat with lemon. Mix lemon juice with bland coffee, and spritz your hair with it until it's saturated. Wrap your head and leave this on over night. It does a sort of natural bleaching job, and really gets rid of impurities that can influence the effectiveness of the henna. Just wash it out in the morning.
3. Mix in some cinnamon & lemon with your henna mix. This helps with both the smell, and the colour.
4. Leave on for as LONG as possible. 8 hours minimum.
5. Build up colour. Dying for 4 hours, 3 times over a couple days is more effective then dying for 12 at ones. The more you layer the dye, the more your colour builds up.
6. If your using henna noir, for blue you CANNOT wrap your hair. It will turn red.
Now, on to some other stuff. There are TONS of stuff about henna people don't know, and never take the time to research. Here's a quick list of the essential basics.
1. Henna is permanent. Literally. Henna CANNOT be dyed over, CANNOT be bleached over, and the colour CANNOT be stripped. If you don't like the colour, too bad. Your stuck with it til it grows out. No chemical dye will colour over it. Your only hopes are to henna over it.
2. Henna and bleach do not mix. No matter what order. Henna fails at covering bleached hair. It will turn orange, or in the case of noir, green. You cannot bleach over henna. The same will happen.
3. Henna and metal do not mix. Don't use metal tools, bowls, or graters. This chemical reaction can brutally destroy your hair. For best results, don't even let it touch metal.
4. As odd as it sounds, henna is a long term commitment. There really isn't a way to get rid of it. Don't henna your hair unless you are prepared to continue to henna your hair.
5. The difference between henna and chemical dyes, is that chemicals actually penetrate the shaft of the hair, while henna completely coats it and seals it. This is why you cannot dye over it, as it is impenetrable. The more you build on this, the harder it is to get rid of.

The blocks are very convenient and the results are convenient, which makes Lush's Caca a good choice for henna first-timers. However, the cocoa butter in this product makes it very difficult to rinse out fully and leaves a greasy residue, so you have to shampoo during the rinse-out -- which is counterproductive, since it reduces the vibrancy of the colour (you should not shampoo for two or three days afterwards, to give the colour a chance to fully develop). The scent is nice, though you could easily replicate it by adding your own spice mix to henna powder.
Caca is good for henna newbies, but if you are a regular/serious henna user, I recommend mixing your own pure henna so you don't have to deal with the cocoa butter and other additives in this product.

Comments about Caca Rouge Mama Hair Henna:
I just tried Caca Rouge last night. I didn't bother grating it. I simply cut it up and put black tea infused boiling water into the henna and squeezed some lemon juice into the mixture as well. I then put the bowl with the henna in a sauce pan filled with boiling water and stired the mixture until it melted to the consistency of yogurt. The process is really not as difficult as others are making it out to be.
My hair is very very dark brown/black and after leaving it overnight I could notice that some parts of my hair were more reddish brown. My tresses also felt very nourished after using it and a pleasant scent lingered in my hair afterwards. However, I would not recommend sleeping with it due to the mess factor. Simply leave it in for 6-8 hours on a day in. I also covered it for the majority of the time, but then also let it air dry for the last couple of hours before washing it.
For me it did show up on my hair, the way it was intended, as a colour enhancer. If you think about it, henna is a very South Asian/Middle Eastern practice. Most women from these parts of the world, including myself, have darker hair. So, for those who say that it is better suited for those with ligher hair, I beg to differ.
I am going to stick to the Caca Rouge since it's primarily just henna. I am not sure how healthy Indigo herb is for your hair, and Marron, Brun and Caca Noir all have that in them... will have to research this a bit more, but I am a bit sceptical already given what I've read so far.
My mom uses body art quality henna in her hair on a regular basis, and her is gorgeous. I will use body art quality henna on my hair for colour too sometimes, but I also like the other ingredients in the Lush ones that are mixed in, a nice combination and very nourishing.
In terms of the price, I am a bit surprised at how expensive the Lush Hennas are in Canada. in the UK the Lush Hennas cost about 7-8 pounds, which is still much less expensive even after factoring in the exchange rate : /

Comments about Caca Rouge Mama Hair Henna:
I used this for the first time a few weeks ago. Before I tried it I read hundreds of these reviews, and they all mentioned the mess and the smell, both of which are not really that bad. I will say that I panicked a little when I mixed up the dye with coffee and it turned a brown green colour and then when my head was saran wrapped the liquid coming from it was bright green. I hadn't read about this at all, but I stuck it out for 4 hrs and I am glad I did. The colour is amazing! I will never go back to chemical dyes again. Another great lush product.

Comments about Caca Rouge Mama Hair Henna:
Hi all,
First of all, I took the advice of some others on here and grated the block before mixing it with water and it helped a lot. It isn't nearly as clumpy that way, so it's easier to apply and the colour is more even.
I did use a dye brush too, which helped limit the messiness I think. I got the mixture to about a double cream consistency, maybe slightly thicker, and it covered very well. And if you're going for a gingery red, cling film is a must.
Anyway, my hair is like a "dirty blonde" or like a medium-dark blonde... and it is slightly on the warmer side anyway, so anytime I've dyed my hair red with chemical dye I've loved the look on me. It suits my fair, freckled skin very nicely... however chemical reds NEVER last... I didn't have the money to keep it up nor could my hair handle being coloured so frequently so I gave up on the redhead dream....
However.... this product is wonderful. It comes out a rich, natural looking red... more coppery than red-red but that's what I wanted anyway. It's buildable... which is nice because if you do it once and want something more intense you can layer the colour until you get what you want, and the best part is... at least I find.. it thickens and strengthens my hair.
My hair is soft, shiny and a lovely gingery red. I will never go back to chemical reds now... never. There is no contest between the two. I get compliments all the time, and many people ask me if it's my natural colour... I'd say that's a pretty good sign! Haha.
I think my favourite aspect of the henna is that since it seals the hair shaft and doesn't penetrate like chemical dye, any natural highlights or tone variance you have before you henna still come through once you've coloured... that way it's not flat and uniform like can sometimes happen with chemical colour. It helps the colour look more natural. Also the natural lightness or darkness of your hair kind of decides the level, so that also helps it look more natural. I don't personally like when my hair looks obviously coloured... :P
One tip... do not use henna if you have any dye in your hair. If you wish to use henna... grow out any dye you presently have in your hair beforehand. I know it's a pain, but please trust me haha. It's a much better experience when working with your natural hair. Especially avoid use on bleached hair... it doesn't hold nearly as well.
Anyway, long story short, I LOVE this product... and will continue to sate my craving for red with Caca Rouge for many years to come, I'm sure.

Comments about Caca Rouge Mama Hair Henna:
First off people need to actually do reseach about the product before using it. Many are shocked or don't find they got results probably because they don't do any research about proper use. Henna is great if you want to go from a light hair color to a darker hair color. If your hair is black or a dark brown you MIGHT get some kind of tint/streaks that will be noticably in sunlight but nothing super drastic. Henna does not lift like a chemical dye. Also, Henna takes 3+ days to oxidize the color you get when you first wash it out will not be the final color. It's also recommended that you wrap your head with saran wrap. Any heat will make the color more vibrant! You can also use lemon juice or something else accidic in the mix to make the color vibrant.
I've used this product and loved it. I do find it takes a while to wash out but just use a cleanser like HairOne or a condictioner. Yes, it takes longer then chemical dyes but it wont damage your hair. If you don't like the smell or the amount of time go back to a chemical dye, babies... This is a permanent dye so instead of being stupid and just doing it on a whim. DO RESEARCH, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS and if you ahve dark hair DONT EXPECT SOME MIRACLE COLOR.

Comments about Caca Rouge Mama Hair Henna:
I have used this product 3 times (so far (; ) and I love it!!! It gives my hair a beautiful red vibrancy and my hair is softer and way, WAY glossier than I thought hair could ever be. Like, it's really, really, really GLOSSY (: !!!!! Just wanted to make a point... Anyway, after using this product a few times I have discovered many tips and tricks that I wish I had known in the first place, because if you go henna your hair cold turkey (like i did S: ) then it will be a very sad, messy situation. My hair is naturally dark brown, a bit mousy even. It's far from thin, but not too course, kind of your average textured hair. The first time I henna-d my hair, went with Caca Marron just to be on the safe side- little did I know, I could've easily just used Caca Rouge for a shy beginning (more on that later) . I mixed 3 blocks (my hair is layered and a bit longer than shoulder length) with a scant 1 cup of dark coffee (mistake ): ). After it had been fairly melted into the texture of thick brownie batter (mistake) I removed it from a stainless steel Bain Marie and place it into a cold-ish glass bowl (mistake). Then, I carried it up to my bathroom to begin the horrific process as man reviewers describe. Being too impatient and thrifty, I made yet ANOTHER mistake of choosing to apply the mixture to my hair via fingers. After smushing it good into my hair, ignoring those annoying clumps and that grotesque smell, I wrapped my hair in 3 plastic bags AnD a towel just to be safe. I left it in for 3 hours. Washing it out was actually much easier than mos reviewers had described, so that gave me a bit of confidence. After shampooing and drying my hair, I was disappointed- a lot ):. There was no difference in my hair, with the exception of mild auburn highlights in bright sunshine. The good news is, after a few more trial-and-errors, and that's really the secret to perfecting your henna routine, I have mustered a few tips that really helped me:
1) Henna first timers- In my case and many others, the henna had little effect on my hair. However, you should still be prepared for dramatic results. If you're sure you want henna, but unsure if you'll be happy with the results, you could take the Marron route or a much more stylish options which I ADORE, especially if you have layered hair. Section your hair off into two top and bottom sections, and only apply henna to the bottom part- remember to only use half or less of your regular amount! It gives it this gorge ombré-ish effect, creating a sort of soft edginess without being a full head of blazing red hair. Highly recommend!!!
2) Always always always use a dye brush to apply!!! I know it sounds a little extreme but promise you it makes the process SO much easier and effective! If you're still not crazy about having to wait until you find an actual dye brush to henna up, I can't vouch for it, but I'm not doubting that a thin, wide, paint brush might do the trick? Experiment!!! (;
3) Add conditioning products to the henna mixture for sort of a hair-dye deep-conditioning combo! Anything with natural fats or most oils- especially olive oil- is great. Also, it REALLY helps if you're using marron which is chock full of hard to remove coffee grounds.
4) This is really just a quick tip for dark haired ladies and gents like me who crave vibrant results but are pensive about investing in more henna for extra applications. If you use a hair-lightening product prior to henna- you know, the drug store kind or a homemade lemon and salt spray bottle mixture- it will make the henna more visible.
5) A bit of encouragement- application isn't really as horrible as it may seem. Henna comes of easily because of the cocoa butter in the henna and newspapers always help (;
6) Add-ins:
Chamomile tea as a liquid for goldeny or orangey results
Paprika or red wine adds a more auburny touch
Coffee makes the red warmer and softer
Lemon makes the red more zingy and gives it a kick
Sea salt lightens up your hair on the process
There are so many more I have yet to try!
7) Kind of a cautioning... Henna is permanent! Yes, it will fade, wear out, and dullenif not frequently applied, but you will always have a lingering red tint to your hair. I'm NOT saying this is a bad thing- it saves me many trips to purchase extra henna- but if you haven't really thought about henna-ing your hair, do some research!
The bottom line is that you and everyone else will eventually get used to it and be fine with whatever shade your hair turns out, but it's a lot nicer if it's what you planned originally.
Henna is definitely an adventure, but not a bad one at all!!! I can guarantee you will not be disappointed by whatever results you get, because it will only be a matter of time before you think "hey, I'm glad I did that!"
So give it a try! Henna is not a big scary commitment, more of a small change, remember, hair is hair- it grows, changes colors, and alters- so if you want to alter yourself in a small, fun way, henna is always much easier than tattoos after all c(;

Comments about Caca Rouge Mama Hair Henna:
My Hair: Naturally Red but Fading in the Winter, Fairly Thick, Long and Curly, Difficult to Control.
Starting Out: I prepped the henna, using 2 of the squares in the block, heating it with water in a double-boiler. For 2 squares I use about a cup of water. It takes a long time to dissolve. Others have said they grated it, something I may try next time.
Applying It: I put on an old t-shirt and a towel over my shoulders. Over a bathtub with a couple inches of water in it (to prevent staining), I massaged the henna all through my hair, carefully coating all of it. It wasn't too difficult on my own, but I did end up getting henna on my face. I may ask my mother for help next time, because she also uses Caca Rouge to dye her hair. Once it was all applied, I wrapped a plastic bag around my head.
Waiting: The first time I did it, I let it sit for only 2 hours. Unfortunately, because my hair is already red, it didn't change the tone at all. The second time I did it, I let it sit for 6 hours. The change was startling and amazing. It looked fantastic and I got tons of compliments on the change in tone.
Washing Out: It wasn't too difficult. I use "I Love Juicy" Shampoo and "American Cream" Conditioner. I also used a comb to comb out my hair and make sure I got it all out.
6 Weeks Later: It's been 6 weeks since I used it, and my hair still looks great. I'm planning to dye it again in about a week to make the colour even more bold, though it's already a powerful red.
My hair is soft, luscious, and sexy as can be! Definitely one of my favourite products!

Comments about Caca Rouge Mama Hair Henna:
I'm a natural red-head, but over the years my hair has become more blondish brown (sun and chlorine are the likely culprits). It is also very fine. I missed the red-head part of my identity so I thought I'd try and get it back. Having never done anything to alter my hair in any way before, I was a bit nervous. After mixing the product with boiling water,a process I found to be much easier after grating it, I applied it to my damp hair over the bathtub. Once all my hair was covered, I wrapped it in a plastic bsg, and then a hot damp towel. Two hours later, I washed the henna out and the result was a bright auburn colour that glows in the sun. I absolutely love it. My hair also feels stronger, thicker, and silkier than ever before.

Comments about Caca Rouge Mama Hair Henna:
I wanted to try this to see if it would thicken my hair and I also wanted to change my hair colour.
I was impressed that after using it once I saw a difference in my hair right away, it's a little knottier now but once dry it stays nice all day (which it didn't before). It seems to help my hair stay "volumized" all day, it doesn't get as greasy as fast, it doesn't tickle my face anymore! It's Amazing I tell you!!
Also the mess in the kitchen when I was done was a little intimidating, but was actually really easy to clean up. Some of the Henna stuff got on the counters and somehow on the floor under the news papers but it all cleaned up very nicely.
And by the way, DO NOT DO THIS ALONE! It was horrible, I was stuck in the kitchen trying to call my boyfriend, I couldn't see if I had gotten it all over the back and I was freaking out! It all turned out alright in the end though! :D

Comments about Caca Rouge Mama Hair Henna:
Its so amazing I posted a bunch of photos on Lush Robson Facebook page in Vancouver B.C. so everyone can see how amazing this is. If you love natural beauty and natural beauty products than this is for you.
About my hair. Unruly curls, brown with blondy streaks, thick, long and dry. My natural highlights get lost in my fluffy frizzy hair.
After sleeping in two blocks Caca Rouge you would think I was a Hair Model. Curly, no frizz and my highlights stood out a copper colour against auburn coloured hair you would think is natural. This honestly was the feedback I got from people. I have never gotten so many compliments on my hair.
Especially good if you have really curly hair and you prefer to air dry hair. It turns hard to control curls into defined soft curls.
Use the rest of Lushes amazing haircare line and get sexy sleek hair. Works very well with heat styling.
You kill three birds with one stone. You get a scalp treatment, new colour and deep conditioning. And its cheaper than going to the hair dresser. If you've got really curly hair you know how expensive and time consuming it is to get sexy hair.

Comments about Caca Rouge Mama Hair Henna:
I have naturally dark brown/black fine Asian hair that earlier this summer I decided to highlight with light caramel brown streaks. I decided to darken the streaks when the colour kept fading and becoming closer to blond.
The salesperson at Lush said to start with the Rouge instead of the Marron because my hair had been chemically treated, and the Indigo in the Marron could turn my hair green.
I dissolved 3 blocks of Rouge in a stainless steel bowl (I know they say not to do this, but I did it before I read that fact that it didn't seem to harm anything. :P). I didn't even bother grating it, I just put the entire chunk in and stirred it until everything had dissolved. I cut three holes into a garbage bag, and wore that over my clothes, and wrapped a towel around my neck. The LUSH saleslady had kindly given me a sample of Ultrabalm to use on my hairline/ears, etc to keep the henna from dying my skin.
I added the Henna dye to my hair in sections, and then flipped the bottom of my garbage bag up to catch any drips/flakes while walking around. I left the dye in only about 3 hours before washing it out. The washing process wasn't bad at all - I shampooed twice and then conditioned twice, and it seemed to be all out.
The colour is great - my blond highlights turned a very piercing reddish-orange, which I really like against the natural colour of my hair. I don't notice TOO much difference in my natural colour though, but maybe this would have changed if I had left the dye in longer.
This was the first time I had dyed my hair myself. After reading all the reviews, I was expecting a really laborious and messy process, but it really wasn't that bad!!
I definitely recommend this dye. :)

Comments about Caca Rouge Mama Hair Henna:
The biggest thing with any henna is to use is properly; hot hot water, in a non-metal bowl, promptly wrap your head in plastic when you're done and keep your head warm (unless you want a mellower, browner shade in which case, keep it your hair exposed and/or cool). And don't expect the first layer to have drastic results; the longer you leave it in the better (a couple hours or more), and two or more applications will make the colour real intense so give it some patience. Time in the sun will also intensify the colour over the course of a few days.
Now that I've got the knack of it, I always come out with fiery, natural-looking red colour on my naturally thick dark blonde hair. I've used Caca Rouge enough times on my hair that it's pretty much permanent and I just redo it about every 6 weeks to do the roots and boost the colour. 2 squares is usually enough to comfortable cover all 7 inches of my hair, focusing on the roots. I've used other hennas but this one is by far the most effective and gentle when used properly. Can't wait to experiment with Caca Noir lowlights.

Comments about Caca Rouge Mama Hair Henna:
To put it out there, I've never dyed my own hair and I've never changed my entire hair colour. I'm a natural dirty blonde that envies bright redheads. So I picked up a sample of Caca Rouge to do a strand test.
It was easy to prepare: lay down a copy of Lush times (like newspaper) to mop up the drips of product and keep it off the table. Use latex gloves for application. I clipped the majority of my long thick hair on top of my head so that only the inch-wide strand I was dying was hanging loose.
Mistake: since I only had a sample for a small strand test, I had too much water for the little clumps of product that I used. Instead of using our smallest pot I should have just poured hot water over the Caca Rouge pieces in a small bowl. Pots are ideal if you're using the whole bar so that the ratio of water to product is right for the consistency and richness you need.
Also, because the pot was too big, I lost a lot of heat far too quickly, which is probably why my colour wasn't that red or bright. I probably applied the product at room temperature.
After I coated the strand with the clumpy/watery solution I had, I wrapped it with cling wrap and clipped the top of it so the cling wrap wouldn't slide down (which it did while I was blowdrying the strand to attempt to heat it).
I left it in my dry hair for over an hour. I then washed it out with shampoo and rinsed it, like the instructions said to do (however, other reviewers have said not to shampoo for 3 days after dying so as not to strip the colour out while it's developing).
The result? A pretty, very natural-looking, coppery chestnut red that shines in the sun. It's not stark in contrast to my blonde hair, and it didn't "ignite into a fire" like the product promises, but I know what to improve on based on reviews if I want to achieve more of that look.
I'm satisfied with the strand test, and will probably use up the rest of my sample for highlights throughout my hair.
Oh, and the dye washes out in the shower nicely without staining anything. :) But be cautious if you're dying your whole head, as that will product a lot more clumpy dye.

Comments about Caca Rouge Mama Hair Henna:
First of all, I'll say that I have black hair. I was pleased because the Caca Rouge made my hair feel super soft and nourished. My only problem with it is that it hasn't changed my hair colour at all. I understand that the difference wouldn't even be that big because of my dark hair, but even after multiple uses, my hair hasn't lightened in the slightest. I'd only suggest this to people who have light colour.

Comments about Caca Rouge Mama Hair Henna:
I was very worried to try any kind of henna in my hair! I have been getting it done at salons for the last few years every couple months different shades of red. I recently discovered Lush and their bubble bars. Hearing about the Henna from a local store and after much research I decided to try it out!
Most of the bad comments I read was the mixing process. Since this is my first time maybe it is more difficult than other products.... but it was NOT VERY HARD at all. I grated it and added hot water and stirred it to a yogurt consistency and voola!
Application was messy, but no more messy than any other at home hair color. I found this easier to get every place and not miss any spots! Mind you I used all six blocks for my medium length not very think hair. I decided to wrap my head in cling wrap to enhance the color... and OH BOY did it work! I absolutely love it! Its the EXACT COLOR I have been trying to get for years!!!
One annoying part was the constant leakage from cling wrap for the four hours I had it in my hair.... I used two whole rolls of paper towels... I am going to have to come up with a better statagy when I use it again...Maybe it was not think enough?? and YES I am defiantly using it again!
My hair is so soft and feels better than it has for years! The wash out process was my least favorite part, I resorted to sticking my head under the faucet to get most of it out.... then it was about a 30min shower process and eventually I had to use some shampoo and conditioner... But its still completely do able. AND TOTALLY WORTH IT!
I read a lot of articals saying henna stains... I got this stuff on the walls... sick... floor ceramics... clothes and carpet and I have gotten it out of everything... but my skin.... make sure you put vasaline around your hairline!
I am a huge skeptic and I dont enjoy most of the products I try... I have really sensitive skin and most products dont agree with me. But honestly I am completely IN LOVE with this henna! And I recommend it to anyone!

Comments about Caca Rouge Mama Hair Henna:
I'm an ash blonde who has been going red for several years now. I was initially apprehensive about the commitment (I used to be a dye maniac...purple, blue, pink, you name it) but always kept going back to red. As most people know who have dyed red before, it doesn't stay red unless touched up every three weeks or so. My hair would always return back to the same golden blonde (It was nice, but not what I was after).
I just used Caca Rouge for the third time the other day. It's always bright at first, and then oxidizes to a more subdued, natural colour. This time, the colour was more brilliant than it's been in the past...layering henna gets a beautiful look. And guess what? No fading!
For those who are saying it's harsh or drying - it may seem that way at first. Hair requires two things: protein and moisture. If your hair is more inclined to crave moisture, you will find a bit of dryness at first, because henna is a wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am intense protein treatment. Some of my tried and true methods of infusing the hair with serious moisture are the hot oil treatments (seriously, they are incredible) or mayonnaise (it's gotta be the real, full fat kind though...eggs and oil, heaven for your hair!). I usually just follow up my Caca Rouge with a vial of hot oil or two, and I'm good to go.

if you have blond highlights be careful or you'll end up with a flaming redish orange kinda like reba macintire, but if you want an intense color that leaves your hair shiny and smooth then this is it.

Comments about Caca Rouge Mama Hair Henna:
read through comments for a week before purchasing. i currently have it on my hair a second time. i have short hair so it was not as difficult as some of the reviews made it sound. i had my mom help me. the first time was awkward and messy but we made it work. the mix would start to dry and thicken during the process and we had to add some water part way through. second time around we made the mix in a metal bowl and put that in hot water in a slowcooker. SO MUCH better. mix remained consistent and was much easier to apply. first time i used it it was on top of box hair dye but the red still definitely shows. wanted it to be a deeper red so i waited a couple of weeks and now am just waiting to wash it out. again, i have shorter hair but it was not too difficult to wash out. i put a cheesecloth over the drain to catch the pieces to throw out though. my hair feels really soft and has a nice shine to it. i get lots of compliments.

Hi, I have been thinking of trying out Henna Hair Dye but I have dark brown curly hair. I was curious about buying the Rouge Mama and seeing what the outcome would look like but I've been told that henna loosens your curls. Is this true?Asked on 1/14/2013 by AnonymousKnow the answer? I also have brown curly hair. I used the Rouge Mama over my brown with a few lighter highlights, and now have an amazing auburn colour. My hair is very fine and I always worry about things weighing down my curls, but I didn't have any problems with the henna.Answered on 4/12/2013 by Jess from Victoria B.C

My hair is currently a really dark brown, and I just want to give my hair a dark red tint. Will this make my hair really red? and if yes should I just use the Caca maroon colour instead?Asked on 12/1/2012 by Kitten from GuelphKnow the answer? Answer this question

A:
If your hair is very dark brown, the effects of our hennas will be very subtle. Since henna coats the hair with translucent colour, it's unable to lighten the hair at all. Both Caca Rouge and Caca Marron will give your hair loads of shine, smoothness, and a gorgeous red glint as light reflects off your hair!Answered on 3/8/2013 by Brandy from LUSH
Q:
I used Caca Rouge for the first time yesterday. I did not notice much difference in my hair color. My hair is naturally brown, and it does have a few reddish highlights in the sun. I did notice a difference in the texture and shine of my hair though. If I henna again will the henna color build up more reddish with each usage? I've heard adding lemon juice helps. Is this true? What about cranberry juice?Asked on 8/20/2012 by CherylKnow the answer? Answer this question

A:
Caca Rouge contains lemon juice to help enhance the colour, and while it typically does a lovely job, you may want an extra boost! Some of our lovely customers have experimented with adding in other ingredients to get just the colour they want. If you decide to go this route, please make sure to do a strand test first so you can preview the results before taking the big plunge!Answered on 11/5/2012 by Brandy from LUSHA:
It builds colour. I've used it four times. Total of six blocks. For me it got really rich and auburn. My highlights continued to stand out. My hair colour is medium brown naturally. Everyone who seen me use it repeatable times thought it looked better than the first time. I hope this helps.Answered on 10/13/2012 by Dianne from Vancouver B.C.

Does Lush caca rouge contain metallic salts as i heard those are actually bad for your hair, also if i color with lush caca rouge if it doesnt contain metallic salts is it ok if i end up deciding to color it say a brown at a hair salon in the future or am i stuck with just henna till it grows out?Asked on 6/16/2012 by kenzie rae from alberta CAKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
Lush hennas do not contain metallic salts, so they will not react with other colour treatments in this manner. However, it's important to note that henna coats the hair like a varnish, which can cause unexpected results when trying to apply something over it; it's best to do a strand test before adding any colour over hennaed hair!Answered on 11/20/2012 by Brandy from LUSH

A:
If you hair is lighter than dark brown, probably not. Henna is very permanent (you can't dye or bleach it out..you can only go darker). It may fade a bit, but henna is a stain and will change the appearance of your hair.
If you are looking for similar natural, you may want to look into Cassia Obovata powder, which will not change your colour but will make your hear very healthy and shiny.Answered on 6/24/2012 by Tamia from Toronto, OntarioA:
Les Cacas are a semi-permanent effect on the hair, and their colour tends to fade after about six to eight weeks. Even after that time has passed, however, there may still be remaining colour on the hair strand, so we recommend doing a strand test first, and being really confident that you want to stick with the colour for a good long time before doing a full application!Answered on 4/17/2012 by Megan from LUSHA:
A lot of people say... no. You can not dye over henna because of just "Dyeing" it, the dye seals the entire hair shaft and makes it impenetrable,Answered on 5/29/2012 by Britt from Ontario
Q:
If my hair is already dyed with a chemical dye, can i still henna dye over top? Or will it damage my hair?, some sources say henna over chemical makes the hair brittle :SAsked on 2/29/2012 by AnonymousKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
You may be able to safely use the henna over top of hair that has been previously chemically coloured. Please do a strand test first to be sure the colour will to be your liking. Our hair hennas are good for the hair's health, as they provide lots of rich moisture and shine.Answered on 3/2/2012 by Megan from LUSH

A:
You can use Les Cacas as often as you like, and they will build on each other gradually for a deeper, richer shade. You can reapply safely any time, since Les Cacas are very good for the hair. If you want an every day product to help keep the red bright, I might recommend trying the Reincarnate solid shampoo from our Retro line.Answered on 2/17/2012 by Megan from LUSH
Q:
How long will the color last on mostly gray hair and will I have roots as my hair grows?Asked on 1/27/2012 by Anonymous from Farmingdale, NYKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
We recommend using the Les Cacas only on hair that is no more than 40% grey as the colour may not adhere well otherwise. Since Les Cacas work by varnishing over your natural hair colour, the hair that is grey will be much lighter and brighter than the rest of the hair.Answered on 2/17/2012 by Megan from LUSH
Q:
will this work on black hair?Asked on 12/27/2011 by AnonymousKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
It may give black hair a red tint when you look at it in direct sunlight, but the colour change will be quite subtle. It will be very conditioning, and will make the hair very shiny though! Les Cacas work with your current hair colour by coating the outside of the hair strand to provide a varnish of colour. If the hair is light in colour such as blonde or lighter red to begin with, the results will be much more dramatic than if the hair is dark. Always remember to do a strand test beforehand to make sure you'll like your results!Answered on 1/13/2012 by Megan from LUSH
